- Should I take this job offer?
- Is X the right person for me?
- If I take this person to court, will I win?
- Will our house sale go through smoothly?
- Should I go and live in the ashram full time?
- Should I move to Hawaii?
- Will I get my money back?
Essentially horary questions are a test of what our true desire is in a situation. Desire comes from the Latin de sidere, which means ‘from the stars’. This is another way of saying ‘Divine Will’. And hence when we ask a horary question we are essentially saying ‘Is this Divine Will?’
Hence horary is pure divination. Asking for guidance from the spirits of astrology and receiving an answer. Where a horary question requires initiative to be taken (e.g. should I take this job?) then you should come to the question with a sense of what is the right move. So rather than devolving responsibility for your action to the spirits / the Divine, you feel into what seems right to you, and then you test that desire through the question. Though if you simply do not have a sense of what is the appropriate action to take this is also fine.
Even though Horary judgements essentially give a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, it is usual for the chart to describe in some detail the actual situation at hand and to explain why a certain action is the right move for you, and also what may happen if you opt to not follow the divine guidance.

It is important before asking a horary question that:
- The question carries significant importance in your life (it is not to be used lightly)
- You sit with the question for a while and ask it when the time feels right
- You are willing to act on the answer give

Important Note: With this kind of astrology, it is not always possible to give an answer. There are certain ‘strictures against judgment’ – factors that appear in the chart which indicate, for a variety of reasons, that astrology is unable to give an answer to your question. These strictures are an important part of the tradition of horary astrology that cannot be ignored. In such an instance you will receive a full refund.
